A new product is being billed as a breakthrough rabbit food. From Supreme Petfoods it is called Fibafirst. It looks very different to its predecessors. Previously rabbit food came in either a muesli style mix or as a mono-component food. This new food is a monoforage, mixing the two previous options into one. The manufacturers have cleverly developed a process that makes each monoforage strand lighter, larger and higher in fibre.
So your rabbit gets a larger volume of food which takes longer to eat. This is enriching, good for dentition and is probably the closest mimic to the natural grazing process you can find – after hay! The difference is so significant it might persuade you to change the food you give your rabbit.
Here’s the rub – many rabbits are particularly sensitive to changes in their food. If you do want to upgrade it’s important to do it slowly over a couple of days, starting with mixing small parts of the new food in and increasing this over time.
