The clocks going forward combined with that little extra warmth in the air – it’s the perfect excuse to start building up fitness levels – for you and your pets!
This is the time of year when increasing the length of walks can be so rewarding. There are Spring bulbs to see and the first signs of summer foliage budding forth. Just add another 4 or 5 minutes to a daily walk each week and by the end of the month you’ll be adding another mile or so – and feeling all the better for it! An hour’s exercise is an ideal way of keeping joints supple, gently increasing aerobic fitness and cancelling out those extra Christmas calories. It can help with getting a better night’s sleep, too.
The best excuse for a walk is a dog. If you don’t have one of your own, why not offer to be a walker for a local rescue centre or animal shelter? Not everyone who owns a dog has time to give it the exercise it deserves, so dog-walking is a potential money-maker too. You have to be confident with dogs and be able to commit to a daily regime, but it’s a good way of earning a little extra income. Seek advice from your local police about safe places to walk if you are not familiar with the area where you need to exercise the dogs.
You’ll find regular dog walking is quite a social activity too, as dogs are great conversation openers. With so many advantages from fitness to new friends, why not give it a go this Spring?
