Ideally, pets shouldn’t be given as Christmas presents. But giving Christmas presents to pets is absolutely fine! Especially if Christmas provides the opportunity to stand back and make sure we are doing the right thing by the pets we love. Feeding them the right food, keeping them in the best possible condition, providing the appropriate space, exercise and living area? You don’t necessarily have to be able to wrap a present up to make it something very special.
Don’t imagine that the hutches and cages you see in shops are necessarily the right size. Some retailers are better than others at stocking the appropriately sized homes. The best thing is to check with the relevant organisation like the RWAF for their guidelines. Finally, the hutch or cage is only one part of the deal – runs and exercise areas are also important. They still need cleaning out regularly too, but good absorbent bedding can make this an easier and more pleasant job!
So this Christmas have a think about whether the space you’ve allocated to your pet is big enough! A little extra room will make the perfect present!
